The story of how one family's Tuesday evening breakdown led to a solution for parents everywhere.
Jean-Jacques and Marie de Faistre, a couple who cherished deep, meaningful connections, found themselves in the familiar, modern-day whirlwind of raising three wonderful children, aged 2, 7, and 10.
Their home was filled with love, laughter, and a growing collection of glowing screens. They believed in fostering creativity, curiosity, and strong family bonds, but felt a growing disconnect as tablets and TVs became the default source of entertainment.

Parents of three (ages 2, 7, and 10)
Their breaking point didn't happen at a fancy restaurant, but on a completely ordinary Tuesday evening. The kids were zoned out in front of their screens, Marie was exhausted from a long day of work, and Jean-Jacques was scrolling through endless "101 Screen-Free Activities" lists on his phone, feeling more overwhelmed than inspired.
Every idea seemed to require a trip to the craft store, an hour of prep time, or an energy level he simply didn't have.
The feeling of failure was palpable. They were physically in the same room but emotionally miles apart.
They wanted to connect, to play, to be present with their children, but they were paralyzed by decision fatigue and sheer exhaustion. The irony of using a screen to find screen-free ideas was not lost on them.
That night, they talked. They realized the problem wasn't a lack of activities; the internet was overflowing with them. The problem was that every solution was designed for a perfect, energetic parent with a fully stocked craft closet.
No one was designing for the real, tired parent who just wanted 20 minutes of quality time without a huge production.
They didn't need another overwhelming list. They needed a single, perfect idea. An idea that understood them.
This led to their core insight: what if an app could ask the parent how they were feeling first? What if it could match an activity not just to the child's age, but to the parent's energy level?
This was the seed that would grow into the Parent Energy Filter, the heart of Sprout Play.
Driven by this new, parent-centric mission, Jean-Jacques and Marie began creating the tool they wished they'd had on that Tuesday night. They envisioned an app that was, by its very nature, designed to be closed. An app that would:
By starting with the Parent Energy Filter.
By offering one curated "Today's Pick" instead of an overwhelming library.
By prioritizing zero-prep, low-supply activities.
By making it easy to build a daily ritual of play, even for just 15-20 minutes.
They wanted to build a system that would help families reclaim their evenings, turn off the screens, and rediscover the joy of simple, imaginative play.
Sprout Play is the result of that journey. It's a tool born from a real family's struggle, grounded in the belief that connection is the greatest gift we can give our children, and designed with a deep empathy for the realities of modern parenthood.
Our journey didn't stop with screen-free play. As our children grew, we saw a need for another kind of tool—one focused on the art of living well, or savoir-vivre.
This led us to create our other app, Kidventures, which helps families teach children essential life skills, from table manners and patience to respect and responsibility.
While Sprout Play helps you connect through play, Kidventures helps you raise well-mannered, confident, and independent children. We see them as two sides of the same coin, supporting parents in raising the next generation of amazing humans.
